Hello. My name is Leah Cooper and I teach the English Language Learners in grades Kindergarten through Eighth at both Bell and Stockton Schools. I received my undergraduate degree In Elementary Education from the University of Missouri- Columbia and my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction alongside an ESL Endorsement from National Louis University. This is my fifth year working as a Bilingual Lead Teacher for CPS and running the Bilingual Advisory Committee for parents of English Language Learners. Prior to that, I worked as a teacher’s aide at Bell for four years.
I have also taught English as a Foreign Language in Otsuchi, Japan, Istanbul, Turkey and Marrakech, Morocco. These were all wonderful experiences which enabled me to really delve into other cultures and developed my desire to work with English Language Learners in America. Living and teaching in other countries allowed me to experience the struggle of trying to learn a second language and what it really means to acclimate oneself to a completely new environment. Living in Morocco was especially rewarding, because, not only did I get to travel by camel for five nights in the Sahara, but I met my husband of seven years, Hassan Amejal. When not visiting his family (during the very hot summers of Marrakech), my favorite place to be is Big Fork, Montana hiking and kayaking with my twin sister and nephew.
